Merry christmas and a happy 2012

Pleasant, animal-friendly december holidays and a good 2012! I wish you all a beautiful christmas and happy new year. Be aware by to the preparation of your festivalmeals about the conditions of the animals and the suffering that they must endure before they end up on your plate. I continue to strive that development and growth of World-Animals may continue. Without losing our small scale and personal involvement. I hope that in 2012, the consciousness of humans will continue to grow, that all sentient beings have the right on a happy and good life. Enjoy reading our latest newsletter of 2011.

Veterinairy students at PFA Agra

Foundation World animals has started last summer with international internships in India.
Below you can get acquainted with the first three interns whom are going to fullfill their internship through Foundation of World animals. Meanwhile Foundation of World-Animals is now registered in the database of their veterinairy college at the city of Barneveld in the Netherlands. PFA Agra has a cottage in the field of their NGO renovated and furnished for Western students and hopes that in the future many interns will find their way to there hospital cum shelter. Internshipadvertisments and also jobs for graduate veterinarians, veterinary students animals management or para skilled students will soon be shown on our website www.world-animals.org.
The people who want to follow daily the experiences and adventures of: Marjolein, Veroline and kim, who already arrived at Agra.

We are on the photo from left to right: Veroline, Marjolein and Kim.
For our education (bachelor animal and health care) the intention was that we were looking for an internship to carry out a management schooltask. This we liked and wanted to do abroad and were going to search on the internet. We came out at PFA Agra. The work and the vision of this Foundation were very near to us and so we came in contact with 'Foundation of World-animals' from the Netherlands, the Dutch partnerorganisation of PFA Agra.
It seems great to share our experience and the knowledge, we have gained before in our education, as veterinary assistant and many other internships in the animal industry. So to contribute our part in the good work that PFA Agra does. We also of course like to help with the work what there has to be done, get experienced how it is to work in an animal NGO in India, get acquainted with the culture and of course as much as possible we can help animals who really need help.
10 november we leave, then 10 weeks long we will be guest at PFA Agra.
We are currently busy with the preparations, all very exciting, but we are really happy and look forward to our time at PFA Agra!

Jeanette and Kathrin join the board and governance of World Animals

Kathrin

My name is Kathrin Simonsmeier and I joined Foundation of World animals in 2011, after my volunteering experience at PFA Agra animal shelter cum hospital in North India, I worked there between november 2010 and March 2011. I would like to continue to work and contribute something for animal welfare in India, among other things, because there are so many animals in need!

If you haven't been in India it is hard to imagine how many animals there are homeless and injured, wandering around on the streets and a huge ordeal to endure. I want to make sure that the PFA hospital cum shelter can continue and has a future. How can we do that? By informing people about the work of People for Animals and IPAN in India, there to help and to cooperate: practical by hands, money to donate, to recruit people, but also by creating a solid platform for people in Netherlands, Germany and the entire Western world to care for animals in need and the protection of animals in the humane vision of life.
It is one world, we are able together to do something! With Foundation of World Animals can we think and talk together, and contact with people who worry about the life and destiny of these animals.

Jeanette

Hello my name is Jeanette Geurkink, 42 years ago I was born in the Achterhoek 'the Netherlands' in the picturesque village of Bredevoort. Here I spent my childhoodtime especially in the nature and I played the role of Ranger to save animals. I was always concerned with the fate of animals and felt at ease with animals. As a child I already had a dog and later there came also a cat in the family. Now I live in Arnhem and I still like to spend time in nature.

At home I Iive with 2 cute cats, Pluisje is a pussycat of 6 years and Djahki a Sacred Birman malecat of +/-10 years, I have saved him from the Street. Secretly I would be like to do more for animals..
When I came to live, April 2010 in the Neighbourhood Geitenkamp at the city of Arnhem. I came pretty soon in touch with Carolien Roovers. Through her I knew the Foundation of World-Animals. I now also join a project with Carolien closer to home, named Foundation Animal welfare Arnhem.
Carolien has asked me to become active for Foundation of World-Animals. I would like to help because animals cannot stand up for themselves and I hope that I can stand up for them through World-Animals.

Events at PFA Agra

Poisened bitch with puppies

On 10th Aug 2011, we received a complaint at 10 am from the Loha Mandi area near Tote-ka- tal. It was a case of poisoning of two bitches and a pup. This being an emergency, our team was dispatched immediately. On reaching the spot they saw that the three suffering immensely. They were in a very serious condition and their chances of survival seemed grim. The doctor immediately administered first aid. An auto was arranged to take them to PFA Agra Hospital for further treatment and observation.

On reaching the hospital they were provided with a separate ward where they were constantly monitored and further treatment was administered. After two days of constant treatment and cleaning their gastro-intestinal tract, on the third day solid food was given which included milk with bread pieces soaked in it. Their system slowly started to function. Their normal body functions resumed and most importantly faecal matter on observation looked normal. They showed that they were alert and active. On the 14th Aug they were released at the same place from where they were brought from because the people who used to feed and look after these dogs wanted them back. We conducted an inquiry but the people had no idea as to who poisoned these bitches and the pup. However due to the good Samaritans and prompt action by our team led to a successful conclusion of this case.

Baby-monkey

On the 24th of July a sadhu (an ascetic holy man) brought a small baby monkey who was orphaned. The cause of his sad circumstance was nothing new. The skyline of Agra is dominated by electric cables which besides being ugly are potential hazards for all, especially during the rainy season. The mother of this baby monkey also became the victim of these high tension wires. The mother died leaving behind this young baby.
This sadhu was passing by when he saw the unconscious baby monkey. He discovered that it too was burnt. It had scars on the face. He brought it to the shelter for treatment.
We admitted it and began treatment. Everyone in the shelter was moved by its plight for it kept crying for its mother. We tried to win it over. At first it was scared of us. Then very slowly, being lonely, it came to us and it finally allowed us to pick it up and pet it. It was in the shelter till the 28th July. During the course of the treatment, the sadhu came everyday to the shelter to enquire about the progress of this baby monkey. Fortunately recovery was fast and finally the sadhu, who lives in a nearby temple, decided to adopt it and look after it. He is a follower of Lord Hanuman (an Indian monkey God worshipped by many Hindus - picture on the right) and we are sure that the baby will be truly looked after by him.

Little Gato

On the 2nd of February 2011 little Gato (name given by Elke Winkler) was brought to PFA Agra by Harish Jain of Baluganj, in a pathetic condition. It had been badly beaten by some human. It was paralysed and was unable to walk. In the beginning it would drag itself around. In those days Kathrin was in the shelter doing a lot of volunteering work (pls refer to the issue of Dec 2010 to know her experiences). She promptly took little Gato under her wing. She made sure that it was properly looked after and he got its medicines on time. Constant care and attention by the staff and Kathrin helped little Gato take little hesitant steps. The day finally came when Gato, the tom cat, was confident enough to walk albeit a little crookedly.

Kathrin finally had to leave India and was very keen that all the cats she was looking after, got adopted. 2 cats - Basmati and Chapatti found a home (refer to issue Mar 2011 to read the story of Chapatti and Basmati). But Gato was not that fortunate. It seemed that no one wanted to adopt a cat who walked in a strange manner. A few months passed and then finally on the 10th of July there came a sensitive Samaritan in the form of Ms Kamlesh Sharma, a reporter from the Local DLA paper. She came to the shelter and fell in love with beautiful Gato. She decided to adopt him. Now he resides at Nagla Fhaturi near Yamuna Bridge Agra and hopefully will have a real satisfying catlife.
